If Starbucks has come out with their Pumpkin Spiced Latte, then I think it's officially time for all the fall decor and DIYs, right? ;)
Whenever I walk through Hobby Lobby, I always think about doing a shop with me on Instagram story - would anyone be interested?! I decided this week to do shop with me in blog form with my Top 5 favorite fall decor/crafty items!
I love, love, love this frame for a simple touch of fall to the home. I think it could be super cute to put last year's pumpkin patch photo on display! I picked up a flag frame around 4th of July for this same idea (the husband and I take a yearly 4th of July photo :)
Okay, I know these aren't going to be to everyone's taste, but if it has glitter...I'm all for it! With that being said, these would never be allowed into our household because we'd be finding glitter attached to us for the next year, but I love the idea of these as statement pieces among other understated, maybe more woodsy-feeling decor.
I think this raffia pack would be great for so many Halloween DIYs. I could also see them as cute bow accents on a fall wreath. Ahhh these just give me so many DIY ideas...stay tuned ;)
I've totally always wanted to make a DIY just like this! It was so tempting to just purchase in-store, but I might try my hand on a spin at this super cute DIY...stay tuned ;)
5. Thankful Paper Chain Garland
This pack comes with strips that are pre-cut so they easily interlock - so easy, so fun, so cute! I love that they have gold foil detail with the word "thankful." This garland would be a perfect fall accent for Thanksgiving decor!
Thanks for browsing the fall section of Hobby Lobby with me! ;) Let me know in the comments if you'd like a live version like this on my Instagram in the future!
If you have seen any fall items you want to DIY, but don't know how, share them with me on my Facebook and we'll figure it out together!
See you next Wednesday!
P.S. I just realized that it's probably worth mentioning that none of this is sponsored or affiliated with Hobby Lobby - I just really love shopping for craft supplies and decor ;)
I hope everyone enjoyed looking through the summer party inspiration photos in last week's post! Who is ready to have a party?! (me: currently raising both hands) I'm back this week to walk you through how to create a pretty pink photo backdrop with an easy DIY!
This DIY is such an easy way to add an extra detail to your summer party! Your friends can take photos in front of this cute set up and remember the fun times you all had together celebrating summer :)
The great thing too is that not only is this photo backdrop DIY perfect for a summer party to "flamingle" with your friends, but you could even use this DIY for a birthday party, bridal shower, baby shower or wedding!
For this DIY, you will need:
- Three colors of ribbon that are about 2.5 inches wide (I got mine at Paper Mart online)
- Thread that matches the ribbon (to use with a sewing machine)
- One wooden dowel 36 inches long and 3/4 inch thick
- 6 feet of thick twine or rope
- A hot glue gun
First you will want to measure how long your ribbon will need to be. To do this, measure how far it is from the top of where the backdrop will be hanging to the ground. I used this trellis-type object in the yard since it was a great spot and was an easy hanging spot! It was 7 feet from the top of the structure to the ground.
Next, cut your ribbon into 4 pieces of the measured length (for example, I cut 4 strips measuring 7 feet each) and repeat with each color of ribbon so you have 12 strips of ribbon total.
Measure about 3 inches from the top of one strip of ribbon. This is how much ribbon you will use to create the loop at the top to attach it to the dowel. Fold the ribbon down at the 3 inch mark to create a loop.
Sew along the bottom of the loop, using the 1/8 guide on your sewing machine. Don't feel like this has to be perfect! The ribbon will still all hit the ground around the same length, but slight variance in these lengths will add to the whimsy of the backdrop. Repeat with each ribbon strip.
If you don't have a sewing machine - don't worry! You can always try using fabric tape or another strong adhesive instead of sewing the loop. I just felt like sewing the loop was fastest and most secure, but it could totally still work other ways!
Next, place each strip of ribbon on the dowel in alternating colors by putting the dowel through each ribbon loop.
In order to secure the ribbon from slipping off the dowel and also create a way to hang the backdrop, use your hot glue gun to add glue to the last showing couple inches on either side of the dowel and wrap thick twine or rope around each side.
As you can see in the photos above, once I had glued the twine down on one side, I pulled the rest down to the end of the dowel and used that as the measurement for how much should be loose at the top in order to hang the backdrop. All you need to do is pull the rope to the end of the dowel and wherever it hits on the twine, use that as the starting point of glueing down the twin on the opposite end. Refer to the images above if you're more of a visual person (me!). You always start glueing and wrapping close to the ribbon. Cut excess twine.
All that is left now is set up!
On the day of your party, hang your backdrop up using an existing structure like I did or a command hook wherever you want your photoshoot spot to be! Add bunches of balloons to either side to create a framed look to your photo backdrop.
If your photo area is going to be larger, you could definitely make multiple ribbon backdrops and just hang them right next to each other!
I love the pop of color and fun the balloons add! It really helps frame in the backdrop.
And then the only thing left is to have some easy props handy (if you want!) and let your guests have fun and create memories! And get some great photos for their social media, let's be honest ;)
Even our photographer wanted to join in on the fun ;)
Now you're one step closer to having the most fun summer party for you and your friends! I love this photo background because it is so easy to customize and add details for any party you have!
I'll be back next week with another super easy DIY to add another fun element to your summer party! I'm so excited to share it with you :)
See you next Wednesday!
